The honest comparison

Qase is the modern answer to TestRail: a clean test-management product with a genuinely usable free tier, a well-documented public API, reporters for most popular test frameworks, and a mobile app for running cases away from a desk. Teams that found legacy TMS software heavy tend to like it immediately, and it is the tool we most often hear named when somebody has already left a spreadsheet behind.

BugMojo overlaps with Qase on cases, runs and results, and diverges everywhere the loop touches an AI coding agent or a client. Versioned plans with a diff, an automatable-vs-manual verdict with named reasons, identical evidence for human and CI runs, an agent review queue with acceptance counters, and a signed client report are the reasons teams put the two side by side. Pricing is per seat — Free $0 for 5 users, Pro $12, Team $24, Enterprise custom as of September 2026 — with plans, versions, classification and MCP on every tier.

Reporters for frameworks we do not ship for

Qase publishes first-party reporters across a wide spread of frameworks and languages, so a team on Cypress, pytest, JUnit, TestNG or Robot gets results flowing on day one. BugMojo ships @bugmojo/playwright-reporter and a Maestro path as of September 2026; everything else posts results to our REST endpoint, which works but is code you write.

A broader test-management surface today

Shared steps, configurations, suites and requirement links, a run wizard, and a mobile app for executing cases are all shipped Qase features with years of polish. BugMojo's object model is deliberately narrower — plans, versions, cases, revisions, runs, results, evidence — and some of the ergonomics Qase has refined simply do not exist here yet.

An automation-readiness grade already in the product

Qase grades cases Green, Yellow or Red for automation suitability, which is more than most of the category ships and more than nothing. If a traffic-light signal is all your team wants, Qase already has it and you do not need us for it.

A free tier and a price point that are hard to argue with

Qase's free plan is generous by category standards and its paid tiers undercut legacy test management. For a small team that needs a tidy case repository and nothing agent-shaped, Qase is a very reasonable place to stop looking.

MCP that is not an Enterprise line item

With Qase: Qase's hosted MCP server is an Enterprise-plan feature as of September 2026, so the teams most likely to be experimenting with AI coding agents — small ones — are the ones least likely to be able to turn it on.

With BugMojo: BugMojo's hosted MCP endpoint is on every plan including Free, for reads and for writes. An agent proposes cases, attaches a spec as a new revision, records a run and uploads evidence, and typed error codes (needs_auth, forbidden, paywall, stale_version, evidence_required) let a skill branch on the code rather than parsing a message.

Version numbers you can actually point at

With Qase: Qase locks a result to the case version that was tested, which is the right instinct, but it exposes no version numbers to work with and there is no plan-level v1-to-v2 diff. "Which version of the plan did we sign off?" has no answer you can put in a release note.

With BugMojo: BugMojo numbers plan versions, freezes each one with a content hash over scope, criteria, environments, risks and the ordered case-plus-revision list, and renders the v1 to v2 diff as a screen showing added, removed, reordered and step-level changes. Runs bind to a version, so a result always names the plan it was proving.

Reason codes, not a colour

With Qase: A Green/Yellow/Red automation grade tells you a case is hard to automate. It does not tell you the blocker, so nobody can act on it and it cannot be quoted to a client.

With BugMojo: BugMojo emits a mode (AUTOMATED, MANUAL or HYBRID), a readiness score from 0 to 100 with every penalty and bonus itemised, and named reason codes with the detector evidence behind them. Better: registering a fixture that solves the blocker — an OTP bypass, a payment-provider sandbox key, seeded data — flips the affected cases back towards automatable, because the rubric reads the fixture registry.

Evidence a human tester leaves behind

With Qase: Manual execution in any mainstream TMS produces a status, a comment and optional attachments. The session itself is gone the moment the tester closes the tab.

With BugMojo: BugMojo's extension Test Run mode records rrweb replay, console, network and a screenshot per step during manual execution and writes them as the same TestEvidence rows the Playwright reporter writes. That parity is the point: a client report can show the proof behind a manual pass, not just the tick.

A report a client signs rather than a dashboard they are shown

With Qase: Sharing Qase results with a customer means exporting or granting access to your test-management tool, and neither produces a record of the customer accepting the work.

With BugMojo: BugMojo turns a published plan version plus its runs into a report at /r/<slug> with optional password and expiry, PDF and CSV export, white-label branding, and a named approval record carrying the approver's name, email, statement, timestamp and the content hash of exactly what they approved. Approved is terminal; a later change creates a new report instead of moving the signed one.
