Why BugMojo asks for these permissions

Understand why the extension needs to read site data and see network traffic, and how your data stays protected.

When you install the BugMojo extension, your browser warns that it can read and change your data on all sites and see network activity. That sounds broad, so here is exactly what those permissions are for and what they are not.

Read and change data on all sites

To rebuild a faithful session replay, BugMojo reads the page's DOM, console output, and screenshots at the moment you hit a bug. Because that bug could be on your app, a staging URL, or a third-party site, the extension needs permission for all sites rather than a fixed list. This is a standard host permission for any capture tool.

Access to network requests

Half of every bug lives in the network tab. BugMojo observes requests and responses during a capture so developers and AI agents can see failed calls, status codes, and timing without asking you to reproduce the issue. See network capture and its limits for what is and is not recordable.

Your data is redacted before it leaves

Permissions describe what the extension can access, not what it ships to the cloud. BugMojo runs PII redaction client-side, inside your browser, before any data is uploaded. Text and input fields are masked by default, so passwords and personal details are stripped at the source. Nothing is captured while the extension sits idle, either.

Common questions

Does BugMojo read my data on every site I visit?

No. The extension stays idle until you start a capture. It only reads or records a page while you are actively reporting a bug on it.

Why does the extension need access to all sites?

Bugs happen anywhere, so the extension must be able to run on any site you choose to capture. It cannot know your bug's URL in advance.

Where does PII redaction happen?

In your browser, before anything is sent. Text and inputs are masked by default, so sensitive content never leaves your device unredacted.
