Structure your workspace: companies, projects and boards
Understand how companies, projects and boards nest in BugMojo, and learn when to spin up a new project versus adding a board.
BugMojo organizes your work into a simple nesting: a Company holds Projects, each project holds Boards, and each board holds Issues (your bugs). Getting this shape right early keeps bugs easy to find and assign as your team grows.
The four levels of your workspace
Every bug in BugMojo can be traced up through the same chain. Each level answers a different question:
- Company: the top of your workspace. It holds your team members, billing plan and every project. Most organizations have one company.
- Project: one product, app or codebase. A project is the natural home for everything that ships together, such as your web app or your mobile client.
- Board: a lane inside a project where bugs move through statuses like OPEN, IN_PROGRESS and CLOSED. A project can have several boards.
- Issue: a single bug report, with its session replay, console logs, network requests and repro steps. Issues live on a board.
New project or new board?
The choice comes down to whether the work is a different thing or a different slice of the same thing.
Create a new project when the bugs belong to a separate app, codebase or product line. Separate projects keep unrelated work, and often different people, cleanly apart. Add a new board when you want to divide one project's bugs into parallel lanes, for example a board per team, per release, or one for frontend and one for backend.
Common questions
What is the difference between a project and a board?
A project groups everything for one app or product. A board is a lane inside that project where bugs move through statuses. One project can hold several boards.
Where do the bugs actually live?
Each bug is an issue that lives on a board, and every board belongs to a project. So a bug always has a board and, through it, a project and a company.
Do I need a company set up to report a bug?
No. Quick Capture lets you file a bug with zero project or company setup. You can move it into a project later once your workspace is organized.
How many projects can I create?
Project limits depend on your plan. See the plans and limits article for the counts on FREE, PRO, BUSINESS and ENTERPRISE.
